A PCIe (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express) switch is used in computers and other electronic devices to enable communication between different PCIe devices. PCIe is a high-speed interface used to connect components such as graphics cards, solid-state drives (SSDs), network cards and other expansion cards in a computer.
The PCIe switch is used in particular when more PCIe devices are to be connected to a motherboard or another central controller than can be connected directly to the available PCIe lanes.
The use of PCIe switches can improve the overall performance of the system, as more devices can communicate simultaneously without data transfer bottlenecks occurring.
