Mains cable for smart meter gateways

Mains cables connect the Smart Meter Gateway to the 230 V power supply at the meter location. MC Technologies supplies mains cables as standard versions with straight or angled plugs, as Y-connections for parallel supply of several devices and in versions with 6 kV test voltage for installations with increased safety requirements.

Patch cable for the CLS connection

For the CLS (Controllable Local Systems) connection via the Smart Meter Gateway, MC Technologies offers CAT.6 patch cables as flat and round cables. Controllable consumption devices such as heat pumps, wall boxes or storage systems can be integrated into the smart metering system via the CLS interface. Our patch cables are available in lengths from 170 mm to 3,000 mm.

Optical communication head (OKK)

The optical communication head (OKK-485-100) enables meters without an LMN interface to be connected to the Smart Meter Gateway. It reads the consumption data optically via the meter’s infrared interface and transmits it to the gateway via RS-485.

What is an LMN cable?

LMN stands for Local Meter Network. An LMN cable is a data cable with RJ-12 connectors that connects the base meter to the Smart Meter Gateway via an RS-485 connection. It transmits the measurement data, which the gateway then forwards to the metering point operator. MC Technologies offers LMN cables in lengths from 0.1 to 5 meters.

What cable length do I need?

The required cable length depends on the distance between the base meter and the Smart Meter Gateway. Short LMN cables (0.1 to 0.3 m) are sufficient for a meter location with several meters and a gateway in the immediate vicinity. For larger distribution boards or if the gateway is installed at a different location in the meter cupboard, cables of 1 to 5 meters in length are useful. We recommend an LMN bus splitter for connecting several meters.

What does 6 kV test voltage mean for LMN cables?

LMN cables with 6 kV test voltage are intended for installations where increased dielectric strength is required. The 6 kV test voltage confirms that the cable can withstand a test voltage of 6,000 volts. Some grid operators and metering point operators stipulate this variant in their technical requirements.
