Smart Farming via Sensors in Animal Housing

Monitoring of humidity, temperature and light intensity in animal houses

One of the ways successful growers use smart farming is to make their animals as comfortable as possible. For example, it is important to monitor temperatures, humidity and light levels in the large barns and to regulate the barn climate. It is also important to control ammonia concentrations as part of digital farming.

Sensoren in der Stalltechnik

Digital farming thanks to wireless sensor technology

A simple way to keep an eye on these essential values is offered by our wireless sensors. Not only do they not require a data cable, but they are also battery-powered. Therefore, they can be placed and moved at will without complex and expensive cabling. This flexibility is ideal for finding out, for example, why animals avoid or prefer certain places in the barn. This takes the complexity out of smart farming when it comes to monitoring the barn climate. Operators can thus quickly detect any deviations from the comfortable climate and react accordingly – a contribution to breeding success.

The values measured by the sensor are transmitted to a central unit via WMBUS radio technology. This can consist of an LTE device (MC100 WMBUS terminal) that also communicates wirelessly or a WMBUS Ethernet gateway. In both cases, the central processing unit collects the data and transfers it to a server or makes it available locally in a dashboard. An alarm can also be implemented when limit values are exceeded.
